How women hunt for the Ideal Gift

eBay will publish the results of its national survey in 2022. This study will highlight the different kinds of shoppers and their gift-giving styles. The survey “The psychology of gifting” that was carried out by Kelton Research on behalf of eBay sought out adult American women to share how they purchase gifts for the season. The research revealed four different types of holiday shoppers, each sort corresponding with a distinctive type of gift-giving. Learn more?

The research conducted by eBay finds that American women belong to four distinct categories when is about gift-giving. Which group do you belong to?

Emotional Givers. Around 4 in 10 American women give emotional gifts. They generally seek out distinctive gift ideas after taking time to think about to their gifts as well as the recipients on their gift lists. They wish to show how familiar they are with their gift recipients. So they plan the wrapping and packaging, then present gifts by handwritten notecards or notes.

Practical Givers. Around 1 in five American women is in the category of. If they are giving, they prefer either cash in cold form or gift certificates (gift certificates and gift vouchers). The practicality rule is paramount to their gift giving, thus it is up to the recipient to choose what item the receiver thinks is best. And, the perfect instrument for this type of freedom is cash or gift card.

Convenience Givers. About 16 percent of respondents were identified as such. The Convenience Givers are good shopping. They typically prefer to purchase gifts from a single store or source. These women find that searching for the perfect gift is an ongoing chore they’re required to perform (often unwillingly). Most often, Convenience Givers aren’t feeling any excitement or pleasure in finding the ideal present.

Last-Minute Givers. These are the ladies who purchase gifts on the last day of Christmas. They are known to be awed by the rush of last-minute purchase. Around 13% of american women fall into this group. These gift shoppers usually don’t plan their gift purchases way ahead of the holidays.

It is possible to display several of the characteristics of the different types of givers. For most people, however the dominant trait is one, and the other two are secondary traits.

One blog, for instance stated that he was a mix of Emotional Giving and Convenience Giving. He claimed that the one online shop he used to buy Christmas presents which were thoughtfully planned and designed for certain recipients – is proof of this. Before his transmogrification to the Emotional-Convenience hybrid, he claimed he was definitely of the Last-Minute breed.

Skepticism about These Surveys

The eBay survey has been well thought out and is reported as having 95% confidence with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. When I first learned of this survey, my first instinct was to do a self-check and determine what kind of gift giver am I. But, as time went on, I began to realize that I need to take surveys with a grain salt.
